Thumbnail Browser

This form allows any species in the database to be selected by appearance. The order that the species are presented is as follows:

  1. When the program is first started, they are in alphabetical order of common English name.

  2. After a match they are in decreasing order of closeness to your selected criteria, for example, if you open the Land Invertebrates database and click on only the eight legs button, all the spiders will be listed first.

  3. After you have used 'group by criteria' on the Options Menu, whatever sort order you have selected.

Note that the sizes of animals shown on this browser are not in proportion to each other.

Species Thumbnail Pictures

Up to eight pictures of species may be shown, although less may be shown at the end of the database. These are also controls.

Click on a picture to bring up a Species Plate with an enlarged picture and access to further information.

Forward Buttons

(Arrows at bottom right) These give you another page of species thumbnails if any. They act like controls on a music player, the first takes you forward one page, the second takes you forward two pages and the last jumps to the end of the database. A button will be greyed when there are no more pages available by using it. The forward button on the Toolbar performs the same function.

Back Buttons

(Arrow at bottom left) Operation is similar to that of the forward buttons but provide access to previous pages in the database. The back button on the Toolbar performs the same function.

Help Button

(Question mark at centre bottom) Brings up a Context Sensitive Help Box that provides basic help on using the form similar to that on this page. The help button on the Toolbar performs the same function.
