Print Setup

This is a standard Windows dialog, identical to that in many applications. You may select a printer, change settings, choose paper size and source and paper orientation.

Print Preview

This dialog is displayed if you select Printing... in the Data Menu or the Printer button on the Toolbar when a Species Plate is open and on top.

If print picture is selected, a thumbnail of the picture showing approximately how it will print is shown at bottom left. There are options to change scale, set paper orientation and to centre the picture. If print plate is selected there is no preview or related controls. The complete species plate prints much as you see it. You can use the print setup button to set paper orientation.

If you use a black and white printer or have selected black and white from Print Setup, the picture should print in Greyscale, although the exact appearance will depend on the printer and its settings. Note that if you need more printing options you may also copy the picture from the Data Menu and print as required from a suitable paint package.

The dialog has the following controls:

• Print what?
  If you select form, the complete plate (but not the buttons) will be printed. If you select Main Picture, only the principle picture on the plate (as shown on the thumbnail) will be printed.
• Orientation
  Select page orientation as portrait or landscape. Note that this setting will automatically be sent to your printer, you do not need to use Print Setup as well.
• Number of copies
  Click on the down arrow and select the required number for up to 9. You may also type a number directly in the box.
• Scale
  Use the slide to set scale from 100% to 20%. 100% is the top position.
• Centre
  Click on the box to centre the picture on the printable area of the page.
• Print Setup
  Brings up the print setup box described above.
• OK/Cancel
  OK prints the picture as shown. Cancel exits without printing.
