How Plants Make Their Own Food

Like all living things, plants need food. Unlike animals, green plants can manufacture their own food.

The lower box contains some statements about green plants. Some words have been replaced by a blue XXX. An XXX may also represent two words together. All the missing words are in the smaller box at the top together with other words which do not belong in the statements at all. Click on a word in the top box and drag and drop into the correct place in the statements to replace an XXX. You can also replace a word you have placed already by dragging a different word onto it. Place words until every XXX has been replaced.

Only when you replace the last one will you find out how many you have got right. If you have any words in the wrong place you will get a visit from the ugly weed who will replace all the wrong words with XXX again and you have to continue. When you get them all right the friendly weed will tell you how to finish the game.

Note: Instead of drag and drop you can also click on a word in the top box and then on the space in the lower passage where you want it to go.

The page has the following buttons at top right:

• Index Button
  (Left pointing hand symbol) Takes you to the interactive exercise Index page. This will end the exercise and lose any words placed so far.
• Help Button
  (Question mark symbol) Gives you help text similar to this.
• Close Button
  (Cross symbol) Closes interactive exercises and returns you to the main Plants UK form previously open. This will end the exercise and lose any words placed so far.
